Privacy Notice for the LANDHYPERNET Portal

In the process of registration to the LANDHYPERNET portal, you will be asked to provide your email address, name, affiliation and country. This information constitutes Personal Data. This notice sets out how your Personal Data will be handled and your rights in relation to this handling of your Personal Data.

Who will process your Personal Data and why?

Your email address is requested to enable NPL (on behalf of ESA) to register you to the LANDHYPERNET portal and to send you information related to LANDHYPERNET. Your name, affiliation and country are used to further improve the LANDHYPERNET service by getting a detailed picture of the user community through the derivation of statistics on the type of organisation users belong to as well as their geographical distribution.

The LANDHYPERNET portal is managed on behalf of ESA by the National Physical Laboratory of UK (NPL), under ESA’s contract with the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS), Belgium. The hardware of NPL, such as servers where your Personal Data is stored, are located in the UK.

ESA, NPL and RBINS will not use your Personal Data for any purpose other than those set out in this privacy notice and will not disclose your Personal Data to any other entity.

ESA, NPL and RBINS do not consider your Personal Data as an asset for sale and will not sell your Personal Data to any third parties.

For how long will my Personal Data be kept?

If you do confirm your registration to the LANDHYPERNET portal, your Personal Data will be stored until you unsubscribe or until the LANDHYPERNET portal is discontinued, whichever takes place first.

If you wish to unsubscribe you may do so at any time by contacting admin@landhypernet.org.uk.

Once you unsubscribe, all traces of your Personal Data stored for the purpose of enabling your access to the LANDHYPERNET portal will be erased from the servers of NPL and you will not be able to access the LANDHYPERNET portal.

Your Rights

The Data Controller for the processing of your Personal Data is ESA. ESA is an intergovernmental organisation established by its Convention which opened for signature in Paris on 30 May 1975. The headquarters of ESA are located at 24 rue du Général Bertrand, CS 30798, 75345 Paris Cedex 07, France.

ESA manages the processing of your Personal Data in accordance with the provisions set out in ESA’s ‘Policy on Personal Data Protection’, which was adopted by the Director General of ESA on 1 March 2022 and became effective on the day of publication. Under ESA’s Personal Data Protection Framework, you have the following rights, which you may exercise at any time:

• Access: The right at any time to make a reasonable request for access to your Personal Data which is held for the purpose of sending you information in relation to LANDHYPERNET, provided that you demonstrate legitimate grounds for making the request.
  If you wish to make such a request, please submit it to admin@landhypernet.org.uk, copy to dpo@esa.int.
• Erasure, Rectification, Completion or Amendment: The right to have your Personal Data erased, rectified, completed or amended.
  If you do not want your Personal Data to be processed, please submit a request to admin@landhypernet.org.uk, copy to dpo@esa.int, and your Personal Data will be erased from the system. Please note that if we carry out this change, you will not be able to access the LANDHYPERNET portal.
  If you wish to rectify, complete or amend your Personal Data, you will need to submit a request to admin@landhypernet.org.uk, copy to dpo@esa.int, and explain the modifications that you wish to be made to your email address.
• Complaint: The right to lodge a complaint before ESA’s independent Supervisory Authority which complies with the Rules of Procedure of the Supervisory Authority set out in ESA’s Personal Data Protection Framework. You will be required to demonstrate that a Data Protection Incident occurred in relation to your Personal Data, following a decision of the Agency, or at least to present serious reasons for believing that such an incident occurred.
  A Personal Data Protection Incident means any intentional or unintentional activity which violates the provisions set forth in ESA’s ‘Policy on Personal Data Protection’.
  If you wish to lodge a complaint, the first step is for you to contact the ESA Data Protection Officer by sending an email to dpo@esa.int, setting out the nature of your complaint. Your complaint will then be handled according to the Rules of Procedure of the Supervisory Authority that are set out in ESA’s Personal Data Protection Framework.

Consent: By ticking the box when creating your account on http://landhypernet.org.uk/register, you agree to the processing of your Personal Data in accordance with the ESA Framework on Personal Data Protection, on the terms set out in this Privacy Notice.

Please note that if you do not accept the terms of this Privacy Notice, we will not be able to process your email address, and you will not be able to access the LANDHYPERNET portal.
